This year for our annual ANZAC talk we are pleased to present Michael Bell, a Ngunnawal/Gomeroi man, & the Indigenous Liaison Officer from the Australian War Memorial. Micheal’s talk is titled ‘Serving under the Protector’ focusing on First Nations Volunteers from the Boer War through to Vietnam.

About the Event
This year for our annual ANZAC talk we are pleased to present Michael Bell, a Ngunnawal/Gomeroi man, and the Indigenous Liaison Officer from the Australian War Memorial. Michael has been working with the Australian War Memorial since 2016, during this time his priority has been focused on the recognition and contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island service men and women and the broader individual and community contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to the military history of Australia in times of peace and war.
Michael’s talk is titled ‘Serving under the Protector’ it will focus on the contribution, service, sacrifice and restrictions placed on First Nations Volunteers from the Boer War through to Vietnam. It will also highlight the Australian War Memorial’s Journey to a broader and deeper representation of Frontier Wars in the Memorial’s new galleries to be opened in 2028.
