Eumungerie
The village of Eumungerie is located 37 kilometres north of Dubbo on the Newell Highway. The word 'Eumungerie' is thought to be an Aboriginal word meaning ‘Clump of Quandong Trees,’ the village was proclaimed in 1904, a year after the Dubbo Coonamble Railway line (which passed through the village) officially opened in 1903. By the 1920s the village boasted a Post Office, school, Church of England Hall, Catholic Church and the Belmore Hotel. Following the closure of the Eumungerie Railway Station in 1970, many of the village services moved to the larger centres of Dubbo and Gilgandra. Today the Eumungerie is quiet village with a population of approximately 384 people.
